K2 is a very simple hotel with 23 basic rooms. All have ensuite bathrooms and the hotel has everything you need and expect from a 2*, including a fast (and free!) wifi connection throughout and a good bar.
The buiding itself is attractive and traditional, and the location couldn’t be any better – situated at the heart of the village opposite the main Larici ski lift at the foot of the Vanoni piste.
The hotel is family run by Michele and his mother who are friendly and helpful and rightly proud of the excellent food they serve in their restaurant. Half-board guests dine off a fixed menu, but there’s also a great a la carte section of the restaurant open to the public.
On our last visit we enjoyed excellent steak tartare, butternut squash ravioli and an immense venison chop – not your average 2* fare! There are some nice touches including pictures of the ascent of the mountain from which the hotel takes its name, giant historic photo prints of Madesimo on the doors and a bottle of Braulio amaro secured behind ‘break in an emergency’ glass in the bar.
If the weather is not on your side, or you just need to ease some aching muscles, the spa facilities in the Hotel Meridiana opposite are open to outside guests at a fee (it’s also advisable to book the day before).
There’s also a spacious ski room and the rooms are spread over two floors (there is no elevator). Definitely not modern or luxurious but perfect for anyone wanting to ski hard and eat well.
