Lech and its smaller neighbour Zurs are as exclusive as it gets – skiers are actually excluded once a certain number of lift tickets are sold and the tills are closed! These pretty and sophisticated alpine villages have a plethora of stunning 4* and 5* hotels. Families’ head 200 metres above Lech to Oberlech for ski-in/ski-out convenience and hotels like the Goldenerberg with it’s private kindergarten. Enjoy heated chairlifts, champagne bars, flattering pistes and one of the snowiest resorts in the Alps.
Just an hour’s drive from Innsbruck, the Stubai Valley is perched high between the picturesque Tyrolean capital and the Brenner Pass. Neustift is the attractive village and place to stay – the skiing takes place at the head of the valley on the Stubai Glacier playground. Brilliant for families, particularly early or late season and a great spot for summer skiing.
Obergurgl, at 1930m, is reached by going as far as you can up the Ötz valley, a 20-minute drive past the area’s other famous ski centre, Sölden. Once there you will find almost no cars and rarely any crowds, particularly at the even higher suburb of Hochgurgl with its clutch of luxury ski-in ski-out hotels making it an ideal family destination, particularly at Easter given the altitude.
A fantastic resort a little over an hour’s transfer from Innsbruck airport. The mountain is very snow sure with the main glacier retaining excellent conditions late into the season. The skiing is varied, spread over three main peaks (the big three). It truly is a resort to suit all abilities offering terrain from easy beginner bowls to extreme off piste chutes. The traditional Austrian village offers a range of excellent restaurants and very lively nightlife.
The Tyrolerhof is an extremely popular 4-star hotel located in the centre of the resort and close to the Giggijoch gondola. The hotel offers an excellent level of accommodation and a great half board service. The bedrooms are well finished and most are generously sized providing plenty of space and a very comfortable stay. The hotel offers the use of a fantastic wellness area with a swimming pool, a range of different saunas, steam baths and a gym. One of the most popular après ski spots in the village is the Grizzly Bar situated on the ground floor of the hotel, it is not as wild as some of the stereotypical Austrian après ski bars although it offers a great place to grab a few beers by a warm fire with a good atmosphere.
