Join Heston Blumenthal and Friends for the Inaugural Gourmet Mountain Experience
October 9, 2013
We all know how close to my heart Courmayeur is – I’ve written about it here enough times.
But perhaps the main reason I love it quite so much is that you can find so much great food and wine without having to pay an outrageous price for it.
So when Heston Blumenthal visited Courmayeur, I was keen to get his take on my favourite locali. Some of these restaurants have been regular haunts of mine since 1986. I’ve sent so many friends and clients to them – and always with great feedback.
But what would the world’s greatest chef think? I mean, I like my food and wine – but who am I to comment?
A week of mountain lunches (and dinners)
And so it was that we spent the entire week testing every venue on and off the mountain. Let me tell you right now, in case you were in any doubt: having lunch and dinner alongside a man with a world-class palate is simply an incredible experience.
It was pretty reassuring, too. His reaction to the food – for the most part – was every bit as hyperbolic as I’ve been for over half my life. Proof then that shouting about the Courmayeur ski holidays is completely justified.
What makes it so good? For starters, every culinary experience in town is homemade, rustic, family-run, intimate and above all simple – relying instead on quality ingredients from the area.
You’ll typically find a very relaxed clientele in every restaurant, happily enjoying some of the fantastic local wines.
Value for money guaranteed
So let me ask you: where else in the Alps can you get near such good food and wine at such value? And I don’t just mean the restaurant bill – the same goes for actual cost of staying there, too.
The same level of food alone in Courchevel or Zermatt would likely cost you three times more.
Yes, this is a place that puts food first. The fact that there are more mountain restaurants in Courmayeur than there are ski lifts tell you everything you need to know.
Have the Heston Courmayeur experience for yourself
What if I was to tell you that you could experience all this, with Heston, yourself? Too good to be true, am I right?
Then you’re in luck. Heston and I have decided to join forces and celebrate the flavours of this wonderful resort alongside some of the greatest culinary talent from the UK – all against this spectacular mountain backdrop. And we’re offering a small, exclusive group of our clients the opportunity to be a part of it for an unforgettable Italy ski holiday.
Our guests and friends will have access to some of the greatest chefs from the UK, whose restaurants back home boast enormous wait lists.
Joining Heston in the snowy celebration will be fellow chefs and friends Sat Bains – from Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms – and Marcus Wareing – from Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley – both of whom have been awarded two Michelin stars for their eponymous restaurants.
Marcus Wareing and Sat Bains will not only create menus celebrating the region, but also personally cook for guests in keeping with the warmth and hospitality the mountain restaurants offer.
What’s more, there will also be a full programme of skiing and alpine activities – allowing you to experience everything on offer in Courmayeur, including the skiing and excellent après-ski.
Sat and Marcus will each create a three-course menu that celebrates the produce and wines of the bountiful Aosta Valley region for gastronomic, post-slope revelry. With the event running from Sunday 2nd February 2014 through Wednesday 5th February, Sat and Marcus will both be cooking their individual, bespoke menus on Monday 3rd February and Tuesday 4th February, allowing all guests the opportunity to experience both very special dinners. Sat will be cooking at Rifugio Maison Vieille both nights. Marcus will be at La Chaumiere Mountain Restaurant on both nights.
Dates are 2-5 February 2014. To register your interest please email email@example.com.
